These shocks come extended, Installation requires experience
These Monroe shocks are the most heavy duty shocks I've seen as an OEM replacement. The feature a seemingly normal gas tube shock covered in a coil spring, which almost make it seem like a car strut. However these shocks came fully extended, instead of compressed with a plastic retainer, like the Monroe Gas Magnum line of shocks. The Gas Magnum shocks went on in a few minutes, just screw in one side, adjust the level of the frame with your jack, and screw in the other side and you're Done! However, for these shocks with the coil spring, installation was not that simple. I purchased these for a 1974 FJ40, and Amazon's fit guide said it would fit a stock height truck. These ended up being 6-8 inches too long when extended, and since they come extended and are covered by that nice coil spring, they do not compress more than 3 inches under the weight of an average 180lb man. Load adjusting shock absorbers
Strongly recommended for load carrying vehicles, particularly Rv's, Stepvans or Trucks. Gives you a firm controlled ride. Give it a 5 star rating. Make sure the installer has proper equipment since it has to be partially collapsed in order to mount it. If you are a Do-it-yourself, its a 2 man job, but you won't be disappointed with the result if a firm ride is what you want.
